It is always easy to get overenthusiastic and overexcited about running. However, one must ensure to avoid the following mistakes to ensure a smooth and safe flow of your run.

things to avoid before going for a run

Eating and Drinking too much

Eating and drinking too much before a run can make you feel very uncomfortable and can lead to some discomfort. You will face stomach aches and cramps. Make sure you don’t put too much pressure on your stomach close to a run. Keep your stomach light by eating some easily digestible food, like a banana. One must ensure eating 2 hours before a run.

Keeping your body hydrated is very important, but it depends on the weather conditions. If it is sunny, then your body will require more water, but ensure not to gulp an excess amount of it.

Static Stretching

Many runners start stretching immediately before a run. Sometimes, it can be the first thing you do in the morning, and your body is not warmed up, it needs to get time to prepare to start moving. Always start easy with a light walk and some dynamic stretching and let the body sink into the running movements. Don’t push too hard too soon.

Doing exercises like lunges, arm swings, leg swings, ankle bounces, and some gentle jogging is recommended. Such a dynamic warm-up using some of these exercises will help to improve your run because it reduces muscle friction, and this can help you to pick up speed when you first start to run.

Not going to the washroom before a run

It is the worst thing to do before a run. Using the washroom during a run can disrupt your momentum of running. There may be instances when you would not be able to find a washroom in the course of your run. You must train your body, and make it a part of your routine to use the washroom before a run.

If you want to know whether you are dehydrated or not, you should look at the colour of your pee. If it is clear in colour, then chances are that you not dehydrated.

Not listening to your body

Many runners have specific goals as to what they want to accomplish by running, but you have to listen to your body. Once you get up in the morning, take a minute to understand how are you feeling. When you are feeling exhausted, then it may be a sign that training is too much as of now. You need to give your body that rest and recovery it needs.
