Coronavirus is growing exponentially in the world. Experts are worried as cases are doubling at a rapid pace.
It has created havoc in all spheres of life. Sport is no exception. Many tournaments have either been postponed or cancelled. Euro 2020 and Tokyo 2020 could be the biggest events that are facing this bizarre fate.
Many players have tested positive with COVID-19. The English Premier League has been suspended till 3rd April. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and a Chelsea player Callum Hudson – Odoi have tested positive for coronavirus. Arsenal and Chelsea’s first-team squad is in self-isolation.
Leicester City has forced to isolate three players from their squad. They were showing symptoms connected to coronavirus. They were tested positive.
Spain is not untouched. Valencia and Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay was the first casualty. On Sunday, he confirmed it. He became the first La Liga player to confirm that he has a virus. Real Madrid shut down their operations due to a basketball player.
Australian Cricketer Kane Richardson has tested positive for COVID-19. He has been put into quarantine. A 29-year-old reported developed a sore throat after the South African trip.
A player from Pro Football League confirmed that he is suffering from coronavirus. The player is from Seattle Dragons and he is in self-quarantine due to positive diagnosis results.
In the NBA, Detroit Piston’s Christian Wood has been tested positive for coronavirus. He thus became the third NBA player to be confirmed with it. Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell (both from Utah Jazz) were tested positive recently. Jazz and Pistons played against each other last Saturday.
Juventus has confirmed that their defender Daniele Rugani also tested positive. Sampdoria announced that some players from the club have been tested positive for Coronavirus. Monolo Gabbiadini, Sweden midfielder Albin Ekdal, Gambia defender Omar Colley, Norway playmaker Morten Thorsby and Antonio La Gumina are suffering from COVID-19. The on-call doctor for the Genoa club, Amedeo Baldari has also tested positive. Fiorentina’s Serbian forward Dusan Vlahovic also joins the list.
Betfred Super League game of Leeds Rhinos has been suspended. The reason was that one of its players showed symptoms of illness due to the coronavirus. He is under self-isolation.
A 23-year-old professional futsal player from Iran had died from coronavirus. In the city of Qom, Elham Sheikhi was in the hospital for ten days. Sheikhi had played for Iran’s Women national Futsal team.
Fremantle AFL player Sam Switkowski showed symptoms of coronavirus scare. He underwent 14-days of isolation. On Wednesday, he returned to training after being cleared from the coronavirus.
Nottingham Forest’s owner Evangelos Marinakis has been diagnosed with the coronavirus.
